Report on unlawful sand mining on the Yamuna river mattress between Etawah and Jalaun, Uttar Pradesh, 28/07/2020

Report of the Oversight Committee in compliance of the Nationwide Inexperienced Tribunal (NGT) order June 17, 2020 handed in Authentic Utility 475/2019 (Ajay Pandey & Others Vs Union of India & Others).

The matter associated to remedial motion in opposition to unlawful sand mining on the Yamuna river mattress between Etawah and Jalaun district together with Auraiya district, Uttar Pradesh. In accordance with the applicant (Ajay Pandey), unlawful sand mining is happening in river Yamuna and its 4 tributaries (Chambal, Kwari, Sindh and Pahuj) which merge in river Yamuna known as Panchnad. The unlawful mining is inflicting ecological harm to the river, affecting aquatic life, leading to air air pollution and different violations associated to environmental norms. Total, adversely affecting the well being of inhabitants.

Observations of the Oversight Committee:

The Committee observed from the inspection reviews submitted by the District Magistrates of Auraiya, Jalaun and Etawah on the instructions of the Committee that no unlawful mining was discovered within the inspection in any of the involved districts. It was discovered that there was no storage of sand at Muradnagar. In Bijalpur, plot quantity three had been duly allotted for 5 years to the leaseholder Pandey Brothers. On account of monsoon season, no mining exercise was happening on this space. No unlawful mining was prevalent in Panchnad space. In view of the above, the Committee was of the view that no additional motion was required within the matter.
